Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr Nomusa Dube-Ncube, visited the Coastal KZN TVET College’s Umlazi Campus during an oversight walkabout on 14 November 2025. She inspected the condition of campus buildings, met the SRC, and visited the agricultural training site.
What Happened
Dr Dube-Ncube toured several facilities at the Umlazi Campus, assessing classroom conditions, infrastructure needs and general maintenance issues. She also held a brief engagement with SRC members, who shared concerns affecting student life and academic progress. Moreover, the Deputy Minister visited the college’s agricultural site, where students showcased their livestock and vegetable projects.
One student said, “The agricultural programme gives us real experience. It helps us prepare for work after college.”
Official Response
The Deputy Minister expressed admiration for the college’s agricultural initiatives and praised students for their commitment. She emphasized that government remains focused on improving campus infrastructure and supporting TVET colleges as engines for skills development.
Dr Dube-Ncube said, “We want to ensure that learning conditions support quality training. Students must also use the NSFAS platform before the closing date.”
Community Impact
The visit boosted student confidence and emphasized government’s intention to strengthen TVET teaching conditions. At the time of her visit, the NSFAS application window was still open, and her reminder encouraged many learners to apply before the 15 November deadline. Although applications have since closed, officials believe the awareness drive helped more students meet the cut-off date.
