South African hip-hop artist Mzayifani “iFani” Boltina released a heartfelt statement on 13 November 2025, revealing major delays in completing his long-awaited 3rd Quadrant project. The rapper, born in Mthatha and raised in New Brighton, shared the update on his social media platforms.
What Happened
iFani told fans he tried to finish the project but “failed” due to financial pressure. He said mixing was not completed, producers had not been paid, and studio time remained outstanding. Artwork for the project also stalled. He added that record label discussions “ended in the air” and that he was told to expect feedback only in December. Because of these challenges, 3rd Quadrant is now delayed.
The rapper reflected deeply on his journey, saying he questioned why he continues to pursue music despite high costs and repeated setbacks.
Official Response
iFani described the situation honestly and emotionally. “Imali iphelile. Mixing ayikagqitywa. Producers andikazibhatali, Ngoku ndiyazibuza: why am I doing this music thing?,” he said.
He also shared personal struggles, saying he juggles family responsibilities while fighting to keep his creative career alive.
In another part of the statement, iFani wrote:
“It’s one of those sad days namhlanje… indoda ayikhali.”
He confirmed that for his birthday he would release only the INTRO of 3rd Quadrant, as the full project is not ready.
Community Impact
Fans responded with support, praising his honesty and encouraging him to continue. Artists in the Eastern Cape also expressed concern about the difficulties creatives face with funding, production costs, and industry barriers. Many said iFani’s openness highlighted the broader struggles young musicians face while trying to break into the national market.
