The Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEDEAT) continued its outreach campaign at KwaNoJoli Youth Centre, where local entrepreneurs received direct support and information. The session formed part of a districtwide drive to boost rural and township businesses.
What Happened
The workshop was led by Chief Director for Economic Development, Mrs Nozipho Booi.
Entrepreneurs arrived in numbers and engaged with officials throughout the programme.
Those needing non-financial support received real-time guidance on compliance and access to DEDEAT Group services. Participants seeking funding were assisted with their applications on-site.
Official Response
Officials focused on three key areas:
• Business compliance and access to DEDEAT Group services
• LRED Fund applications
• Information and support for the Spaza Shop Support Fund under the Department of Small Business Development
Mrs Booi said the outreach is designed to bring government services closer to the people.
“We want entrepreneurs to access real opportunities without barriers. This drive is about inclusion and practical support,” she said.
Community Impact
The campaign stretches across Eastern Cape districts. It aims to uplift small businesses, especially in rural and township areas. By connecting entrepreneurs to support systems, the programme helps them start or expand their businesses. It also strengthens local economic development by ensuring that communities benefit from accessible government services.
