On 11 November 2025, the Democratic Alliance Eastern Cape Provincial Leader Andrew Whitfield spent the day in Buffalo City Metropolitan, meeting communities and stakeholders across Mdantsane and East London. His visit included oversight activities, public meetings, and support to local initiatives.
What Happened
Whitfield began his programme in Schornville, where he handed over soup-kitchen equipment to support local food-security efforts. He then conducted oversight at the Water Treatment Works, assessing service-delivery challenges and progress. Later, he held public meetings in Mdantsane, engaging residents on issues affecting daily life, including infrastructure, safety, and economic opportunities.
Official Response
The DA said the visit reflected its commitment to practical solutions for municipal problems.
“The DA remains committed to finding real solutions and building a better Buffalo City for all,” the party stated.
Whitfield also emphasised the importance of consistent oversight, noting that community engagement helps identify urgent priorities.
Community Impact
Residents welcomed the outreach, saying it offered a platform to raise concerns directly with political leadership. Local groups added that support for food-security initiatives could ease pressure on vulnerable households. Community leaders also said improved oversight at water facilities may help stabilise service delivery.
