On November 8, 2025, Ntabankulu Local Municipality hosted its 2nd Annual Horse Racing and Fashion Show at Nozolisa Sports Ground. The event, held in partnership with the Ntabankulu Horse Racing Association, Race Coast, ToTE, and Hollywood Bets, drew crowds from across the Eastern Cape. Supported by SABC, Alfred Nzo Community Radio, and several stakeholders, the day blended sport, style, and culture in a powerful showcase of rural pride.
What Happened
For months, the community prepared for this special day. Jokers groomed their finest horses, local designers crafted bold garments, and vendors set up colorful stalls ready to welcome guests. The result was a vibrant celebration that went beyond competition—it reflected the spirit and heritage of Ntabankulu.
The horse races thrilled the crowd, while the fashion pavilion dazzled under the marquee. Designers presented a stunning mix of tradition and trend: shweshwe dresses, beaded accessories inspired by amaMpondo culture, and sharply tailored suits that turned heads with every step.
The event also stressed the deep connection between horse racing and rural identity. For generations, horses have been part of daily life and agriculture in the area. Reviving this practice through annual festivities helps preserve local customs while inspiring the youth to embrace their heritage.
Official Response
Councillor. Lubisi, the Portfolio Head of Development Planning, addressed the crowd during the closing ceremony. Looking out over the cheering audience, she shared heartfelt words that captured the moment’s significance:
“Today, we have proven that rural does not mean behind. Ntabankulu is alive with talent, beauty, and opportunity. Together, we gallop toward a brighter future.”
Municipal leaders praised the collaboration among partners and the dedication of the community, noting that such events boost tourism, support small businesses, and strengthen social cohesion.
Community Impact
The horse racing and fashion show has become one of the most anticipated events in the Eastern Cape calendar. It draws visitors, boosts local trade, and shows the creativity rooted in rural communities.
Beyond the glamour, it celebrates unity and identity—proving that progress and tradition can thrive together in Ntabankulu.
