The Matatiele Local Municipality, working with the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), has concluded the 2026 NSFAS application support sessions held at Matatiele Library, Maluti SSS, and Tholang SSS on 8 November 2025. During the final leg of the programme, seven top-performing learners received laptops to boost their academic journey.
What Happened
Municipal officials and NSFAS teams assisted hundreds of learners across the three centres, ensuring that applicants submitted complete and accurate 2026 funding applications.
After completing the drive, the municipality awarded laptops to outstanding achievers from participating schools. The devices will help the learners transition into higher education with reliable digital tools.
Official Response
The municipality said the initiative shows its long-term commitment to improving access to education. “This programme shows our dedication to empowering local youth and giving them the resources they need to succeed,” officials noted.
NSFAS representatives added that early support ensures fewer application errors and increases approval rates.
Community Impact
The handover has been welcomed by parents, educators, and the wider community. Moreover, learners said the laptops will help them prepare for tertiary studies, conduct research, and complete digital assignments. Local leaders believe the initiative strengthens Matatiele’s push to build a skilled, competitive generation.
