The newly constructed Thaleni Bridge was officially handed over on 04 November in Ward 27, celebrated a turning point for residents of Thaleni and nearby villages. The bridge now ensures safe, direct access to schools, clinics, and major transport routes for hundreds of daily commuters.
What Happened
Built under the municipality’s infrastructure development program, the Thaleni Bridge replaces hazardous river crossings that once isolated communities during rainy seasons. The project now provides reliable, all-weather access for residents, learners, and the local taxi industry.
“This bridge brings real change,” said a local taxi operator. “We can now reach schools and clinics without worrying about floods or washed-out roads.”
The bridge’s completion has already shortened travel times and improved connectivity to economic centers in the region.
Official Response
Speaking at the ceremony, Her Worship the Mayor, T.D. Mafumbatha, praised the collaboration between project partners, engineers, and the Ward 27 community.
“The Thaleni Bridge stands as a symbol of dignity, inclusion, and progress,” said Mayor Mafumbatha. “It’s a clear sign that we are delivering on our promise to improve infrastructure and safety across all wards.”
Municipal officials confirmed that more rural bridges and road upgrades are planned as part of the next development phase.
Community Impact
For Thaleni residents, the bridge means more than convenience—it means safety and opportunity. Learners can now attend school consistently, ambulances can reach patients faster, and local businesses can operate without disruption.
Residents expressed gratitude for the development, noting that the bridge restores a sense of connection and pride in their community.
