Kaizer Chiefs defeated Orbit College 4–1 on Tuesday night to go level on points with Betway Premiership leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. Shabalala’s double inspired the Amakhosi to a confident home victory at FNB Stadium on 04 November 2025.
What Happened?
Chiefs made three changes to their line-up, introducing James Monyane, Asanele Velebayi, and Zitha Kwinika. The reshuffle paid off immediately. Just four minutes into the match, Monyane’s quick run down the right wing set up Mduduzi Shabalala, who finished neatly at the near post to give Amakhosi an early lead.
Orbit College responded with energy, nearly equalising through Given Thibedi’s low drive, but goalkeeper Brandon Petersen stayed alert. Chiefs maintained their attacking rhythm, with Etiosa Ighodaro narrowly missing a header before halftime.
After the break, Chiefs continued to dominate. Shabalala grabbed his second goal in the 61st minute, capitalizing on Ighodaro’s hard work in the box. Orbit’s Ayanda Lukhele briefly restored hope for the visitors, heading home a goal in the 71st minute.
However, Chiefs quickly extinguished that spark. Mfundo Vilakazi made it 3–1 just three minutes later with a stunning curled finish. Substitute Flavio da Silva sealed the win in stoppage time, smashing in the fourth goal after Orbit failed to clear their lines.
Official Response
Chiefs head assistant coach, Cedric Kaze praised his team’s clinical finishing and composure.
“The boys showed great character tonight. We were hungry, disciplined, and it paid off. Shabalala’s performance shows the depth and promise within our squad,” said post-match.
