Raymond Mhlaba Municipality Mayor Nomhle Sango officially handed over several completed Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) projects in Mount Pleasant. The initiative included the upgrade of 1 km of asphalt road, 6 m wide curbing, stormwater channels, and the paving of Hutchison Street.

What Happened?

On 31 October 2025, the municipality’s leadership, including Speaker Thozama Ngaye, Portfolio Head for Finance Councilor Sinethemba Mjakuca, Portfolio Head for Engineering Services Councilor Sithembele Zuka, Portfolio Head for Community Services Councilor Elton Bantam, and Ward Councillors Masixole Tukani and Zikhona Lento, joined Mayor Sango in celebrating the milestone.

Following the Mount Pleasant handover, Mayor Sango and Municipal Manager Unathi Malinzi conducted a site inspection of other ongoing MIG projects, such as the paving of Nondyola, Somerset, and Jacaranda Streets.

Official Response

Expressing gratitude during her speech, Mayor Sango said:

“It gives me great joy to hand over this road, which has been completed by the Municipality to a proper and high standard. I hope that your vehicles will be safe on this road — travel and drive with care.”

She was delighted to hand over a project completed to high standards and encouraged residents to drive carefully and protect the new infrastructure.

Community Impact

The newly completed roads are expected to improve mobility, enhance safety, and boost local economic activity in Mount Pleasant and surrounding areas. Residents will now enjoy better access to essential services and safer transport routes, aligning with the municipality’s long-term infrastructure development goals.
