Port St John’s Police Station held a heartfelt Breast Cancer Awareness event on 28 October 2025. Officers, survivors, and locals gathered to share stories and promote regular health checks.

What Happened

Chaplain Reverend Matya opened the event by urging everyone to examine their bodies regularly. “If you feel abnormal lumps, visit the clinic,” he said. Police and health workers teamed up to teach about early diagnosis and treatment.

Station Commander Colonel Mawisa encouraged love and empathy. “Let’s support those living with breast cancer wherever we are,” she said.

Lieutenant Colonel Yeko from the Employee Health and Wellness unit said many still suffer in silence. “We cannot keep quiet while people die without knowledge. Cancer is curable when found early,” he noted.

Health workers Mr. Mthinjwa Mzameleni and Sister Mjulwa led free screenings for breast and cervical cancer.

Community Impact

Three survivors from Caguba shared moving stories of pain and courage. A police officer living with both breast cancer and a brain tumor urged kindness at work.

“When you’re humiliated, you suffer more. Support helps us heal,” she said.

The event closed with free tests and counselling, inspiring attendees to care for their health and one another.
