Sixteen local entrepreneurs were celebrated at a ceremony hosted by O.R. Tambo District Municipality, Walter Sisulu University (WSU), and the Small Enterprise Development Finance Agency (SEFDA). The event, held on October 30, the completion of a six-month business development program that ran from February to July 2025.
What Happened
The Community Partnership and University Engagement Program recognised 16 entrepreneurs who completed a comprehensive business training initiative. The program combined classroom learning and hands-on experience in Personal Finance Management, Business Finance Principles, Investment Planning, and Strategic Decision-Making.
The celebration showed the graduates’ resilience and their determination to grow sustainable small businesses within their communities. Each participant received a certificate symbolizing their courage to learn, grow, and lead.
“These graduates represent the future of inclusive economic growth in our district,” said an O.R. Tambo District spokesperson. “Their journey shows how education and entrepreneurship can drive meaningful change.”

O.R. Tambo District Municipality reaffirmed its commitment to supporting local entrepreneurs through education partnerships. Officials praised the collaboration with WSU and SEFDA for bridging the gap between academic knowledge and practical business skills.
According to program coordinators, the initiative aims to transfer university expertise to the broader community, especially to individuals who never had the opportunity to pursue higher education.
A WSU representative noted, “Our goal is to empower every participant with tools to manage finances, make strategic business decisions, and maintain ethical business practices.”
