The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) in KwaZulu-Natal has confirmed major progress in improving service delivery and client convenience. The October 2025 report, presented to Parliament’s Portfolio Committee, highlights operational upgrades, new technology, and stronger accountability measures across the province.
What Happened
The KwaZulu-Natal SASSA Regional Executive Manager, Ms. Thamo Mzobe, led the presentation, confirming that all 82 local offices are now open and fully functional.
“We are proud to report that all 82 local offices are fully operational, offering guest Wi-Fi and self-service kiosks to improve client convenience,” said Ms. Mzobe.
Key highlights from the October 2025 update include:
| Focus Area | Progress / Achievement |
| Beneficiary Biometric Enrolment | Fully implemented in all 82 offices |
| Grant Review Completion | 77% completed to ensure accountability |
| Infrastructure Improvements | 13 offices with dignity upgrades |
| Alternative Energy Access | 64 offices now using backup power |
| Water Facilities Installed | 22 offices connected |
| Expenditure (Midyear) | 46% of budget spent efficiently |
Improved Access and Efficiency
The rollout of biometric enrolment has reduced fraud risks and improved grant authentication. In addition, self-service kiosks allow beneficiaries to check payment dates and update information without queueing.
The use of guest Wi-Fi enhances digital access for clients completing online forms or NSFAS-related verifications. These efforts align with SASSA’s nationwide goal to digitize client services while ensuring inclusivity.
Partnerships Strengthening Delivery
SASSA KZN continues to work with government departments, traditional leaders, and community organizations to expand its reach. Collaboration with local municipalities has also improved access in rural areas.
“Partnerships are at the heart of sustainable service delivery,” Mzobe added. “Together, we are ensuring that no community is left behind.”
