What Happened
The prayer gathering drew hundreds of people from across the Ngquza Hill community, who came to reflect, worship, and honour the memory of those who lost their lives in Ngobozana last year.
Among those in attendance were Mayor P.N. Pepping, Speaker Councillor. S.B. Vatsha, and Chief Whip Councilolr. M.I. Nkungu, joined by Honorable. Daluxolo Sigcau, the Acting King’s Representative.
Faith leaders including Rev. Mzukisi Faleni and Mr. Jamakazi led the service with moving messages of peace, unity, and spiritual restoration.
“We gather not in despair, but in faith that the dark cloud over our people will pass,” said Rev. Faleni during the service.
Official Response
Speaking at the event, Mayor Pepping thanked all participants for their continued resilience and solidarity. He emphasized that such gatherings play a vital role in restoring hope and promoting peace in the community.
“When we come together in prayer, we remind ourselves that hope still lives here,” Pepping said. “Our strength lies in unity as leaders, citizens, and believers.”
Local government representatives, faith-based organizations, and traditional leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to community healing and moral renewal.
Community Impact
The service, dubbed “Uthandazo Lwethemba” (Prayer of Hope), resonated deeply with attendees, many of whom have endured loss and hardship in recent years.
Residents said the event served as both remembrance and renewal, a call for peace amid ongoing challenges.
“Today we prayed for light to replace the darkness,” said one participant. “This gathering gave us strength to believe again.”
The Lusikisiki College field echoed with hymns, prayer, and messages of encouragement — a collective wish for a future free from tragedy and despair.
