South African citizens will have the chance to celebrate with the Proteas, newly crowned World Test Champions, as the team embarks on a four-day nationwide tour of the ICC World Test Championship Mace. The celebrations will take place from 23 to 26 September 2025, spanning six major cities.

What Happened?

The Proteas lifted the World Test Championship trophy earlier this year, marking a historic triumph for South African cricket. After a warm welcome in June at OR Tambo International Airport and a reception at Cricket South Africa (CSA) headquarters in Melrose Estate, the team is now taking the Mace to fans across the country.

The tour is expected to begin at Kimberley and Bloemfontein on 23 September before moving through Durban, Gqeberha, East London, and finishing in Cape Town.

Official Response

CSA confirmed the schedule, encouraging fans nationwide to take part. A spokesperson said:

“This tour is a celebration of our players’ achievement and the supporters who have stood by the team. The Mace belongs to the nation as much as it does to the squad. To hold this trophy and share it with our people is something truly special. We hope to inspire the next generation of cricketers.”

Community Impact

The Mace tour is expected to draw thousands of fans to parades, school visits, and stadium celebrations. Local businesses and city councils have joined forces with CSA to host public gatherings that celebrate cricket’s impact on South African sporting culture.
