- Seizure of Firearms and Homemade Weapon: In Maqwathini locality, a 41-year-old suspect was apprehended after police recovered a .38 revolver with erased serial number, ammunition, and a homemade shotgun based on intelligence-led operation.
Police in the OR Tambo District continue to intensify operations against crime, with several breakthroughs made recently.
On the 7th of September 2025, the Mthatha-based District Task Team recovered a high-value industrial ice machine in Mqanduli, suspected to have been stolen in Ngangelizwe earlier this year. The machine, valued at approximately R114 000, was found in possession of a 34-year-old suspect who failed to provide proof of purchase. He was immediately arrested.
In a separate incident, the Stock Theft Prevention Task Team arrested a 35-year-old suspect from Chris Hani Park, Mthatha, during a stop-and-search operation near Cicira junction in the early hours of Monday, 8 September 2025. The suspect was found in a Toyota Avanza with an unlicensed 9mm Norincho pistol with its serial number erased, along with ammunition.
Later the same morning, Mthatha Central Crime Prevention members acted on intelligence in Maqwathini locality, Tabase A/A, a 41-year-old man was arrested after police recovered a .38 revolver with its serial number erased, ammunition, and a homemade shotgun.
All suspects are expected to appear before their respective magistrate courts soon.
Applauding his officers, OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana, said the dedication and commitment of members on the ground remained vital in bringing perpetrators to justice.
