Qumbu Town Hall was filled with joy and celebration on the 4th of September 2025 as the community welcomed home Ezile Jikijela, the soulful voice behind “Ndembathe Moya.” The song recently claimed the prestigious Song of the Year award at the 12th Anniversary INGOMA Awards, celebrating a proud moment for the Eastern Cape.
Adding even more significance to the occasion, Jikijela was accompanied by the legendary Bethusile Mcinga, one of the province’s most celebrated gospel artists. Their presence together on this special day symbolised both unity and the passing of inspiration between generations of gospel talent.
The celebrations later moved to Tsilitwa, Ward 19, Qumbu the proud birthplace of Ezile Jikijela, under Kumkani Mhlontlo Local Municipality. Residents gathered in numbers to honour their own, celebrating a voice that continues to uplift and inspire audiences across South Africa.
Community leaders and locals described the day as a true moment of pride, joy, and unity, recognising Jikijela’s journey as not only a personal victory but also a triumph for the region.
