The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) took part in the 2025 Royal Reed Dance on Sunday, 7 September, at the Emachobeni Royal Palace in Engwavuma, Jozini, KwaZulu-Natal. The agency’s participation came at the invitation of the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Arts and Culture.

Through its exhibition stand and live engagement with attendees, SASSA showcased how social grants play a vital role in empowering women, youth, and families, while restoring dignity and building stronger communities.

“As we honour this rich cultural tradition, SASSA reaffirms its commitment to protecting the vulnerable, preserving dignity, and supporting the next generation,” the agency said in a statement.

The Royal Reed Dance, a centuries-old celebration of heritage and womanhood, draws thousands of young maidens, community members, and dignitaries from across KwaZulu-Natal and beyond. This year’s event once again underscored the importance of cultural identity alongside efforts to strengthen social development and inclusion.
