Floyd Shivambu, National Convener of the Afrika Mayibuye Movement, has confirmed Nolubabalo Mcinga as the Deputy President of the movement. The announcement was made on 1 September 2025 through a post on X (formerly Twitter), where Shivambu congratulated Mcinga following her recognition at the African Women Achievers Awards in Sandton.
Mcinga was named among the Top 100 African Female Changemakers and honoured as an Icon of Africa’s Economic Advancement 2025. In her acceptance message, she said:
“I received a Changemaker Award for the people of our continent. I dedicate it to my family, Mayibuye Afrika, and above all to God and the people of South Africa.”
Background and Political Role
Mcinga previously served as a Member of Parliament with the EFF before joining the MK Party. She is now positioned in the leadership of the Mayibuye Movement. Her public role expanded further during the Mayibuye Consultation Process, a 90-day citizen-driven dialogue concluded earlier this year.
Confirming the next steps, Mcinga told Pondoland Times:
“We listened to the people, and the people said they want a new political party that is not just a party, but a movement. The launch is downloading. A press briefing will soon be held to give feedback on the consultation outcomes.”
She added today that the formal announcement is imminent:
“On Friday we will announce the outcome of the national consultation and national dialogue we did to possible formation of a political party or movement.”
The press briefing is scheduled for 5 September 2025 at the Mhulu Boutique Hotel in Midrand.

Humanitarian Work
Mcinga has also been active in humanitarian programmes, including food distribution for homeless communities, back-to-school drives, and youth training initiatives. In February 2024, the Eastern Cape Department of Social Development issued a formal letter of appreciation highlighting her role during and after the COVID-19 pandemic in supporting displaced people and assisting with identity documentation and clothing.
Public Reaction
Shivambu’s confirmation of Mcinga’s role has drawn attention in political circles and on social media. Public responses have included both congratulations for her international recognition and questions about the movement’s status, given it is still in its consultation phase.
The developments place Mcinga in a dual spotlight—internationally recognised as a changemaker and now set to help steer the next stage of the Afrika Mayibuye Movement.
