An in-service program is an important part for students towards completing their qualification. There are selected qualifications that require this kind of program, for instance; medical professionals, Public Relations professionals and Educators etc….
However it is not easy to find such a program. Covid-19 pandemic made things worse for the already struggling South African economy. As a result companies are retrenching. Such conditions make it even more difficult for students with no experience to get any opportunities with these companies. As companies are getting reduced it does not make business sense for them to be taking students for in-service trainings.
With that being said, in-service training remains a fundamental part of studies in certain fields but it is not easy with South Africa’s high unemployment rate. The rate of youth unemployment in South Africa for 2022, remains at 66.5 percent and presents the latest figure of unemployment amongst the youth for the beginning of 2022.
In-service training remains important. Lack of workplace experience among graduates is one of main causes for youth unemployment. It is therefore crucial for one to acquire placement on an in-service, whilst studying.
