East London City Hall was transformed into a hub of celebration and reflection as the ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) closed Women’s Month with a powerful gathering in the Dr Rubusana Region. Leading the programme was ANCWL President, Cde Sisisi Tolashe, accompanied by her National Executive Committee (NEC) entourage, whose presence showed the value of working together to push forward women’s rights.
The event drew a diverse audience of women, community leaders, activists, and supporters, all united under the theme of empowerment and equality. The hall echoed with songs of struggle and solidarity, reminding attendees of the sacrifices made by women throughout history and the ongoing responsibility to carry their legacy forward.
In her keynote address, President Tolashe underscored the ANCWL’s commitment to addressing the inequalities that continue to affect women, particularly in rural and working-class communities. She called for greater access to education, fair representation in leadership, and economic opportunities that empower women to contribute fully to society.
The celebration was not only a closing of the Women’s Month calendar but also a renewed call for action. Tolashe emphasized that the struggle for gender equality does not end with commemorative events, but must be carried into daily efforts to build stronger, more inclusive communities across the Eastern Cape and South Africa as a whole.
The NEC delegation’s involvement reinforced the League’s pledge to stand together in driving transformation, ensuring that women’s voices remain at the centre of policy-making, community building, and national development.
