In celebration of Women’s Month, King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) Local Municipality hosted a capacity building session for women in business at Xesibe Traditional Council, Upper Ngqwarha in Ward 29. The session was held under the theme “Rural and Peri-Urban Women Leading Local Economies” and aimed at equipping women with the knowledge and tools to build sustainable businesses.
The programme was designed to inspire women in rural and peri-urban areas to take an active role in shaping their local economies by creating viable enterprises. It created a platform for aspiring and existing businesswomen to engage directly with key institutions that provide resources and support for entrepreneurship.
A total of eight sector departments and agencies partnered in the initiative. These included the Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEDEAT), Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Department of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform (DRDAR), Eastern Cape Development Corporation (ECDC), Eastern Cape Rural Development Agency (ECRDA), O.R. Tambo District Municipality, Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency (ECPTA), and the Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA).
By bringing together government departments and development agencies, the session underscored the commitment to empowering women with skills, information, and opportunities that can stimulate economic growth and job creation in rural communities.
