Loeriehewel Primary School in Humansdorp, Sarah Baartman District, was a place of celebration today as 82 learners received brand-new school uniforms through the South African Social Security Agency’s (SASSA) Social Relief of Distress (SRD) programme.
Led by District Manager Mr. Tozamile Mzolisa and Head of Social Security (HOSS) Dr. Temba Gola, SASSA officials handed over complete uniform sets, which included shoes, shirts, trousers, skirts, jerseys, and socks. The programme targets learners from families most in need, aiming to support them in their schooling journey.
Mr. Mzolisa said the initiative is about more than just clothing learners.
“A school uniform represents dignity, pride, and a sense of belonging. By providing these uniforms, we are not only easing the financial burden on families but also ensuring that children can focus on their education with confidence.”
Parents and teachers welcomed the gesture, saying it would go a long way in encouraging learners to attend school regularly and participate without feeling left out.
The SRD programme continues to play a vital role in addressing immediate needs in vulnerable communities, and today’s handover served as a reminder of SASSA’s commitment to caring for children and supporting education.
