The OR Tambo Stock Theft Task Team has arrested a 33-year-old man in Qumbu after he was found in possession of a suspected stolen bakkie on the night of Tuesday, 19 August 2025.

According to police, members on routine patrol between Sulenkama and Qumbu around 23:00 received intelligence about a stolen vehicle linked to recent stock theft incidents. Officers immediately followed up on the information and successfully tracked the bakkie to the Blackhill locality.

Upon stopping the vehicle, police discovered that it was using false registration number plates. A preliminary investigation confirmed that the bakkie had been reported stolen in Ntabankulu in December last year (2024).

The suspect was taken into custody, and further investigations are underway to establish his possible involvement in other vehicle-related crimes in the region. Police have reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying operations targeting stock theft and vehicle theft syndicates in the Eastern Cape
