The South African Police Service (SAPS) led a series of female-driven roadblock operations across the western part of the Amathole District on Friday, 8 August 2025, with support from multiple stakeholders.
The operations, held in Dikeni and Maqoma, aimed to strengthen law enforcement, raise gender awareness, and improve overall community safety.
Addressing officers on parade, Alice Station Commander, Colonel Dalikaya Mandlelize, urged women in uniform to lead from the front. “As women, you are fully capable and fit to lead operations, both in terms of physical readiness and professional competence. Please take the lead towards the safety of communities,” he said.
Colonel Mandlelize praised the cooperation of other participating agencies, describing teamwork as a vital element in building and sustaining safer environments. “Working with stakeholders in the fight against crime is crucial for creating effective, sustainable, and widely supported crime prevention efforts,” he noted.
The event reinforced SAPS’s commitment to empowering women in policing while fostering partnerships that enhance security in the Eastern Cape.
