Families and learners affected by recent flood event in the Mnquma Local Municipality have received much-needed support thanks to a coordinated effort by the Amathole District Municipality (ADM), the Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA), and the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA).
The relief drive focused on providing essential items to thirty households and nine learners identified as needing urgent help. Among the goods distributed were stoves, plastic basins, foldable tables, and 227 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) vouchers.
The support also extended to education. A total of 55 school uniforms and nine pairs of school shoes were handed out to learners from Davies Primary, Art Angel, Caley Primary, and Butterworth High School.
AGSA’s Head of People Operations, Ms. Vatiswa Nthoesane, highlighted the importance of working together to solve real challenges. “We’re committed to building a culture of collaboration that delivers where it’s most needed,” she said.
ADM’s Head of Disaster Management, Mr. Thembinkosi Nxawe, thanked all those who contributed. He assured the public that efforts will continue until every household in need is reached.
This initiative reflects the power of teamwork and the real difference it can make in helping communities recover from hardship.
