Eastern Cape police have launched a manhunt for two suspects after a fatal shooting in Rhebhu, Gingqi A/A, Port St Johns on Wednesday evening, 23 July 2025.

The incident occurred around 19:30 when SAPS patrol officers responded to a report from the Community Service Centre alerting them to a shooting in the area. Upon arrival, officers found a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Although unable to speak, he was treated at the scene and later transported to hospital for further medical care.

Tragically, a second victim—a 55-year-old woman—was found with three gunshot wounds to the left side of her upper body. She was declared dead at the scene by Forensic Pathology Services.

Preliminary investigations suggest that two unidentified gunmen, armed with a shotgun, ambushed the victims before fleeing the scene. The motive for the attack remains unclear at this stage.

All relevant authorities were present at the crime scene to conduct a full investigation. A case of murder and attempted murder has been registered.

Police have urged the public to come forward with any information that may assist in tracking down the suspects. Anyone with knowledge of the incident is encouraged to contact Sergeant Sikweza at 084 405 4530, the SAPS Crime Stop number at 08600 10111, or use the MySAPS App. Informants may remain anonymous.

The investigation is ongoing.
