The family of former Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana star midfielder Thando Mngomeni has issued a heartfelt plea for assistance, revealing that he has been missing for over a month. Mngomeni was last seen around mid-June, and despite extensive efforts by those closest to him, his whereabouts remain unknown.

His sister, Pat Maki, spoke to Soccer Laduma, expressing deep concern:

“As a family, we are deeply worried because no one knows where he is. Even those who usually keep in contact with him are clueless.”

Maki last spoke with Thando on June 16, a public holiday, when they spent time together. She last saw him on June 17 or 18 at their home in Gugulethu, where he was waiting for a friend named Musa.

Musa told the family he hasn’t seen Thando since that day and mentioned they had left with Thando’s girlfriend—who may have been the last person to see him. However, the girlfriend’s inconsistent statements and defensive responses have only deepened the family’s distress. A witness claimed to have seen Thando and his girlfriend at a B&B, with Thando allegedly saying they were heading to Johannesburg. Yet, when questioned, the girlfriend denies knowing his whereabouts.

Efforts by Thando’s brother, Thabo, to contact her have been fruitless. The family also received a mysterious voice note claiming Thando is alive but unwilling to disclose his location. The source of the message is unknown, casting doubt on its credibility.

“We’re not asking for much—just a sign that he’s okay,” Maki said.

Rumors have placed Thando in Khayelitsha and other unnamed locations, but none have been confirmed. The Mngomeni family is urging anyone with information to come forward and help bring their beloved family member home.

If you have any information, please contact the Mngomeni family or your local authorities. Every lead could make a difference.
