Long queues and delays have often been a frustrating part of collecting South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) grants. However, millions of grant recipients are now turning to alternative collection points that are safer, faster, and more convenient.
Here are six reliable places where SASSA beneficiaries can collect their grants without the long waits:
- Shoprite, Checkers, and Usave
Retail stores like Shoprite, Checkers, and Usave offer quick SASSA payouts at till points. Simply swipe your SASSA gold card and walk out with your grant while doing your grocery shopping. - Pick n Pay and Boxer Stores
Both Pick n Pay and Boxer supermarkets have partnered with SASSA to allow beneficiaries to withdraw grants at any store nationwide, helping to ease congestion at post offices. - SPAR Stores
Select SPAR outlets across the country also provide grant collection services. While availability may vary by region, SPAR offers an efficient alternative for those in rural or semi-urban areas. - ATMs
SASSA gold card holders can access their grants from any ATM—FNB, ABSA, Capitec, Standard Bank, and others. Although standard bank fees may apply, ATMs remain one of the fastest ways to collect. - Postbank’s New Branches and Pay Points
While traditional post offices have seen closures, Postbank has rolled out new dedicated SASSA pay points in some provinces. These are meant to reduce queues and better serve vulnerable citizens. - Digital Banking Services (e.g., TymeBank, Capitec)
Beneficiaries can switch their payment method to a private bank account. Banks like Capitec, FNB, or TymeBank offer SMS alerts and no-queue access through their apps and debit cards.
SASSA Reminder:
You don’t have to collect your grant on the first day it becomes available. Funds remain in your account until you’re ready to withdraw. Avoid the rush and pick a safer day.
For updates or changes to your collection method, visit your nearest SASSA office or call the toll-free line at 0800 60 10 11.

G’morning trust this email finds you well.
To whom this my consern. I would like to know if there is a specific date to apply for Seniors SASSA.
Or do we also have to come and wait in a queue from the night before just to hear you still need some more outstanding Donations.
Kindly Regards
Margaret Kok-Gangway
Good day Margaret,
Thank you for reaching out and for your important question.
To apply for the SASSA Older Persons Grant (for seniors aged 60 and above), there is no fixed “application day” — you can apply any weekday (Monday to Friday) during working hours at your nearest SASSA office. However, it’s recommended to go early in the morning to avoid long queues, especially during the first week of the month when offices are busiest.
✅ You do not need to sleep outside or queue overnight — SASSA has discouraged this practice. You can go during normal hours and may request an appointment or a return date if the queue is too long.
Sassa office in lenasia they told people that old age application is only mondays only, please send somebody to go & investigate.
many apologies for inconvenience
