The Bizana Derby took a violent turn over the weekend, with Sinenkani FC fans clashing with police at the Mafumbatha stadium in Bizana.
The incident occurred when a goal by Sinenkani FC was disallowed, prompting fans to throw bottles onto the field, leaving one player injured. Police responded by using tear gas to control the riots, which resulted in several fans requiring medical attention.
The match, which was the 7th edition of the Bizana Derby, saw Scarios emerge victorious, maintaining their top spot on the log with 21 points. Sinenkani FC trails behind with 14 points.
Sinenkani FC chairman, Mr. Nqoko, expressed his disappointment with the match officiating, stating that the referees deployed by the South African Football Association (SAFA) were incompetent.
If SAFA continues to deploy such incompetent referees, they are destroying football, – he said.
Mr. Nqoko emphasized that it is SAFA’s responsibility to ensure that referees and officials are neutral and free from favouritism or personal interest in the match.
