Eskom has announced the appointment of Dr Candice Hartley as Chief People Officer and Mr Rivoningo Mnisi as Group Executive: Renewables, completing the strengthening of its executive team. These appointments are aimed at bringing in new skills to drive the delivery of Eskom’s strategy and address legacy management control issues.
According to Eskom Group Chief Executive Dan Marokane, “The past ten months have seen a focused effort to strengthen our executive team, bringing in specialist skills to drive strategy delivery in a rapidly changing marketplace.” Marokane emphasized the importance of addressing legacy management control issues and driving interventions to improve efficiency and competitiveness.
Dr. Candice Hartley, the new Chief People Officer, brings over two decades of experience in human resources, having worked in various sectors, including finance, industry, and technology. Her focus will be on ensuring Eskom has the necessary skills to operate competitively and transitioning the organization’s human capital practices to align with its strategy.
Mr. Rivoningo Mnisi, the new Group Executive: Renewables, has over two decades of experience in digitalization, innovation, and sustainability. His focus will be on delivering a significant renewable energy business for Eskom, with a target of at least 2GW of clean energy projects by 2026.
Eskom’s strategic initiatives include increasing energy availability, returning capacity to the grid, re-baselining cost trajectories, and pursuing sustainable solutions to municipality debt. The utility giant aims to future-proof the organization, enabling energy security, growth, and long-term sustainability for South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa.
