Umzimvubu Local Municipality Elects New Council Speaker

The Umzimvubu Local Municipality has announced the election of Councillor Ndanele Guybon Mdzinwa as the new Speaker of the Council, following the resignation of Cllr Sivikele Mathebe. Cllr Mdzinwa’s appointment was confirmed after a transparent and democratic election process in line with the Municipal Structures Act 117 of 1998.

Cllr Mdzinwa, who previously served as the head of the Citizen and Community Services Portfolio, brings significant leadership experience to his new role. He also served as the Chief Whip during the 2016–2021 council term, showcasing a strong track record in governance.

In his capacity as Speaker, Cllr Mdzinwa will be responsible for facilitating council meetings and ensuring that municipal business is conducted efficiently. His election reflects the municipality’s commitment to effective governance and leadership during this transitional period.

The Umzimvubu Local Municipality has reaffirmed its dedication to good governance and the rule of law. “We assure our residents that the Council will continue to address pressing issues, from infrastructure development to social services, with the goal of creating a thriving and sustainable environment for all,” the municipality stated.

Cllr Mdzinwa’s leadership is expected to guide the Council in its efforts to improve the lives of the people in Umzimvubu, ensuring a smooth transition and continued focus on the municipality’s development goals.
