FLAGSTAFF: Outrage echoed through the community as an abandoned 21-day-old newborn was discovered at a trash site on Tuesday 21, August, leaving residents aghast and authorities seeking crucial information.
A heart-wrenching incident unfolded at Flagstaff’s local dumping site, where an abandoned infant was discovered, leaving the community shaken and questioning the sanity and maternal instincts of the child’s parents. The baby was found discarded outside the CBD, near a walkway leading to Sigubudwini locality, with no identification or leads on the mother or father. The authorities launched a widespread social media appeal, seeking any information regarding the infant, the parents, or anyone connected to the child, but alas, the whereabouts of the parents and the child’s full name remained a mystery.
Amidst the distressing circumstances, a glimmer of hope emerged as the abandoned child was found with a birth card bearing the first names Tapelo and Leon, although the last name had been deliberately scratched out together with the names of the Mother. Nevertheless, the card revealed that the infant was born at Wentworth Hospital in Durban on 30, July 2024, a crucial detail that would aid in unravelling the mystery surrounding the child’s identity and abandonment.
Citizens shared their views on social media platforms regarding the situation at hand, voicing out their discontentment and shock at the behaviour of the parent. Zimkhitha Mnukwa wrote, “Why is it that God makes it hard to give children to good women and easily gives to the undeserving.”
Lisa Ngomana said that, the child is not missing and is certain that the Mother does not wish to be found, hence the scratching off of names from the birth identification card.
Lastly, Vuyisa Melane wrote, “This is simple, the police should contact the Wentworth Hospital and this is surely a know person at that area, that includes Bluff and Clairewood which could make it easy to identify and locate the Mother.
