After a long wait, Kaizer Chiefs formally announced the appointment of Nabi as the new head coach ahead of the 2024/25 season.
“We are delighted to welcome Coach Nasreddine Nabi to the Kaizer Chiefs family. We are happy to have you with us, Coach,” the club wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Nabi recently left Moroccan outfit FAR Rabat after losing the Moroccan League title and domestic cup (Throne Cup) to former Orlando Pirates manager Josef Zinnabauer, who is currently with Raja Casablanca of Morocco.
Nabi joins Chiefs with his technical coaching staff, which includes an assistant coach, a fitness coach, and a goalkeeper coach.
He takes over as head coach of the Soweto giants ahead of the highly anticipated 2024/25 Dstv Premiership season following a disappointing campaign where the club finished 10th.
Expectations are high.
Nabi will also be hoping to restore golden days at Naturena, as the club has been without a trophy for more than eight years. Despite the fact that many renowned managers in South African football—Steve Kompela, Stuart Baxter, and Gavin Hunt—have managed the club, the trophy drought has continued.
Nabi possesses a wealth of African football experience, having previously managed Tanzanian giants Young Africans, Al Hilal, Ismaily, Al-Merrikh, and, most recently, FAR Rabat.
He is well-known for his winning abilities and positional playing style, and he is a proponent of the 4-2-3-1 system.
In his two seasons in Tanzania with the Young Africans, he won two league titles and led them to the CAF Confederation Cup final, where they were narrowly defeated by Algerian side USM Alger.
Nabi met with the players earlier today in Turkey, where the club has already settled and begun preparations for the upcoming season.
Nabi’s appointment signals a new chapter for Kaizer Chiefs, and all eyes are on him as he aims to lead the Soweto giants back to their winning ways.
