Alfred Nzo District Municipality has been rocked by the unauthorized access of its official Facebook account, leading to the dissemination of pornographic content by an unknown hacker.
The breach, discovered on Monday, April 22, 2024, has prompted urgent action from municipal technicians who are tirelessly working to trace the perpetrator and rectify the situation.
Despite immediate efforts to address the issue, the municipality faces obstacles in swiftly removing the pornographic content. With the hacker having removed the municipality’s administrators from the page, the municipality has reported the breach to Facebook, both through the platform’s application and via direct communication with Meta headquarters.
However, the resolution process is subject to Meta’s standard turnaround time, which can extend up to 21 days, leaving the municipality unable to promptly eradicate the offensive material. While acknowledging the frustration and potential damage to the institution’s reputation caused by the situation, the municipality extends its apologies for any inconvenience experienced by its online audience.
