The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed that the eighth official implicated in an ongoing fraud investigation handed herself over to police on Sunday, 23 March 2025.

The official, based at the Johannesburg Local Office, surrendered at Kliptown Police Station accompanied by her legal representative, following a period of being on the run.

This latest development brings the number of SASSA employees allegedly involved in multiple counts of fraud to eight, with three additional suspects reportedly unaffiliated with the agency.

“SASSA is pleased by the latest development and hopes that the law will take its course to make people accountable for their actions,” said Paseka Letsatsi, the agency’s national spokesperson.

Letsatsi reiterated SASSA’s commitment to cooperating with law enforcement in ensuring that those responsible for fraud and corruption face justice. “We will continue to work with the law enforcement agencies and provide them with all the necessary information at our disposal that they need to ensure successful prosecution of all those involved,” he stated.

The arrests are part of broader efforts to clamp down on irregularities affecting South Africa’s social grant system, which supports millions of vulnerable citizens.

Investigations remain ongoing. Further updates are expected as the legal process unfolds.
