National Commissioner of the South African Police Service
648 newly trained constables deployed in Eastern Cape for Safer Festive Season

As part of the #SaferFestiveSeason oversight visit, a total of 648 newly trained constables have been deployed in the Eastern Cape this December to strengthen police visibility and support crime combatting efforts.

As the province enters the peak of the holiday season, the National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS) addressed police members and urged them to prioritise their safety while on duty.

“Remember you are the first line of defence for our communities and as competent and trained police officers, do not hesitate to employ force proportional to the threat, where necessary, to defend your lives and the lives of our communities,” said General Fannie Masemola.

General Masemola further implored police officers to remain safe, extra vigilant, and to continue serving with pride, integrity and honour as they carry out their responsibilities during the festive season.
