The 2024 Matatiele Local Municipality Mayoral Cup wrapped up in spectacular fashion, showcasing the talents and dedication of local athletes. This year’s competition highlighted the exceptional skills and teamwork of various clubs and institutions, culminating in an exhilarating finale.
Among the standout performers, Matat Netball Club from Ward 2, Ingwe TVET College Ladies Soccer Team from Ward 1, and Blue Arsenal Football Club from Ward 26 were crowned the ultimate champions of the tournament. The netball and soccer teams walked away with vouchers worth R5,000, a trophy, tracksuits, and 20 gold medals, a testament to their outstanding performances and hard-earned victories.
The competition also celebrated the efforts of the second-place teams, who demonstrated remarkable resilience and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. These teams will be awarded tracksuits, kits, and medals, acknowledging their commendable efforts and contributions to the event.
Portfolio head for Good Governance and Special Programmes, Cllr. Mzwamandla Nyembezi, announced plans for a special award ceremony dedicated to officially handing over the medals, cheques, tracksuits, and kits to all the deserving teams from each ward. This ceremony aims to honour the participants’ hard work, dedication, and achievements, providing them with the recognition they rightfully deserve.
“We are incredibly proud of all the teams and their outstanding performances in this year’s Mayoral Cup,” stated Cllr. Nyembezi. “The upcoming award ceremony will be a momentous occasion to celebrate the successes and recognize the immense talent within our community.”
