10-Man Orlando Pirates Hold Mamelodi Sundowns in Loftus Versveld Clash

Date:

In a heated DStv Premiership encounter at Loftus Versveld Stadium on Saturday, ten-man Orlando Pirates managed to secure a draw against league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

The match kicked off with both sides struggling to find their rhythm amidst robust challenges that disrupted play. Pirates’ Evidence Makgopa attempted an early goal, thwarted by Sundowns’ keeper Ronwen Williams. Sundowns came close with Peter Shalulile’s header narrowly missing the mark. However, neither team could break the deadlock in the first half.

The intensity continued in the second half, with tough tackles from both sides. Pirates faced a setback when Miguel Timm received a red card in the 54th minute. Sundowns seized the opportunity, with Marcelo Allende scoring in the 76th minute. But Pirates fought back, earning a penalty converted by Tapelo Xoki to level the score at 1-1.

Despite efforts from both teams, the match ended in a stalemate. With this result, Sundowns remain atop the league with 39 points, while Orlando Pirates maintain fifth place with 26 points.
