The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a severe weather warning for parts of the Eastern Cape, starting this Saturday, 15 November 2025.
What Happened
An intense cut-off low pressure system is expected to sweep across central and eastern South Africa from Saturday to Monday. SAWS warns that this system could bring:
- Heavy downpours with localised flooding
- Severe thunderstorms with hail and lightning
- Strong, damaging winds
- Sharp drops in daytime temperatures
The eastern parts of the Eastern Cape — including areas near Matatiele, Mthatha, and Mbizana — may be especially affected from Saturday into Monday.
Official Response
In a media briefing, SAWS urged residents, farmers, and motorists to prepare for dangerous conditions.
“The public must closely monitor weather updates and take all necessary precautions,” said Mr André Fourie from the National Forecasting Centre.
Weather warnings will be updated daily on SAWS platforms, including their website and WeatherSmart app.
